• The Nursing Home Mortality Index (NHMI) was developed using the data from 903 nursing home residents in Minnesota (mean age = 80.3, 72.6% female), and was externally validated using the data from 586 nursing home residents in Eastern Iowa (mean age = 83.8, 63.1% female).
• Area-Under-Curve (AUC) for MN dataset = 0.74; AUC for IA dataset = 0.68; Sensitivity = 0.79; Specificity = 0.53 • The NHMI is designed to inform dental clinical decision making.
Dental professionals should consult the patient’s medical provider regarding his/her prognosis.
